Even though I'm not sure what the total costs of our case will be I still wanted to set a goal for at least the costs that I am aware of, some of which I've already paid out of pocket. This will help to motivate our cause and let us know how close we are to the finish line.
The estimated costs for the initial part of my wife's case are $3540. I've added the progress thermometer but I have to manually update it so forgive me if it doesn't get updated when you make a donation or if it ever becomes out of sync.
UPDATE:
As of 10/18/2010 we've met our initial fundraising goal! Thank you everyone! We'll still accept donations for future legal fees and other ongoing fees like Mai's Phone Card.
As of 09/30/2010 your overwhelmingly generous donations have put us past halfway in just a few days! already up to $1,840
The money I'm raising will go toward legal fees to pay the lawyers working on my wife's case along with other fees incurred from this incident such as her car being impounded and a pre-paid phone account that allows Mai to call home every night and talk to her family.
I'm blown away by how generous everyone has been and I'd like to encourage any and all kinds of donations. Some people have given very generous amounts, which I am oh so grateful for, but even modest amounts are greatly appreciated. If we all keep spreading the word and everyone pitches in a little bit we'll eventually meet our goal! Strength in numbers!
